The Mothman

It Never Ends

Fortunately, the Jamboree came and went, and there was no false-flag attack or incident of any kind. No Mothman sightings, no suspicious outbreaks of illness, zilch. But Kent didn’t regret having sounded the alarm, given what he knew had gone on during the first part of the year and also knowing that the Cryptocracy wasn’t finished yet.

Indeed, it had looked for all the world like the stage had been set for a mass casualty event: the geography was right, the place names were right, the occult markers were right. The only things missing were the lifeless bodies of dozens, or hundreds, or thousands of Boy Scouts and their families.

Just because there was no mass sacrifice doesn’t mean it wasn’t a ritual, Kent thought. Perhaps it had been a mass ritual of the less lethal variety, with references to some obscure occult garbage he wasn’t familiar with and thus didn’t recognize, or perhaps it simply looked a whole lot like the ones he’d studied. Maybe it had been a part of the Golden Jubilee script, or, maybe not. In the final analysis, it probably didn’t matter much anyway. As always, there would be more sacrificial killings, more staged terror and more ritual acts. It was only a matter of when and where.
